Pro-Life Center Opens in ‘Abortion City’

As part of the on-going efforts to reduce the incidence of abortion in New York City, the “Abortion Capital of America,” and around the world, the Expectant Mother Care (EMC) organization is planning to open an “American Center for Pro-Life Action” in the Fordham section of the Bronx. They close on their new home this Thursday, May 22nd.

Chris Slattery, president of EMC, said, “The new center will give us the ability to house, feed and train young pro-life men and women at no cost to the volunteers. We have 23 years of experience in counseling expectant mothers, and providing concrete assistance to people in need. Our new center will allow us to expand our activities both locally and to the far reaches of the globe.”

Approximately 30 dynamic, idealistic interns have already been recruited for the first class, Mr. Slattery added. The first group includes Americans, as well as people from Ecuador, Spain, the United Kingdom and Nigeria. The first co-ed college student intern, a sophomore from Notre Dame University, arrived on Monday.

The center will use current staff members and also will bring in leading experts for special seminars to help train the interns, who will spend an average of six weeks at the site. They will learn: crisis pregnancy counseling, how to operate life clinics using ultra-sound technology, and pre-natal care; how to start a mobile clinic and park it at abortion mills;and how to do life-saving fund-raising.

EMC has been helping mothers to avoid abortion for more than two decades in New York City. “We operate ten life centers and roll out one of two mobile clinics every day. On average we counsel over 5,000 pregnant women every year now,” Mr. Slattery pointed out. “The great majority of women who see their baby on an ultrasound machine choose to have the baby. It’s a gift from God, of course.”
